Starting a New Chapter
Expansion
How to Apply
The University of Oregon practices a responsible expansion process in order to best support existing chapters within the Interfraternity Council.
Expansion is guided and determined by the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life to ensure that growth is timely and expansion efforts work in the best interest of the community and the expansion group.
Currently, FSL & IFC are welcoming no more than one new group per academic year to provide a reasonable time for that group to be the focus of efforts and partnership with the office.
At this point, the community is not seeking expansion partners until the 2025 - 2026 academic year.
Ready to Start The Process?
If your organization is interested in joining the community, please e-mail Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life Caitlin Roberts.
Best practices and suggestions based upon successful efforts from expansion groups at UO:
Recruitment of an active and engaged alumni advisory board prior to your scheduled expansion
Commitment of at least one headquarters professional on-campus in Eugene for at least 2 months in the fall term with a preference for a long-term placement of a staffer in Eugene for the duration of the group’s first year of operation
On-site visit the term before the slated expansion with various hq staff involved with expansion
Recurring in-person recruitment support during the fall term for the group’s first 2-3 years
